In the 10th mai Bangkok Business Challenge@Sasin held during 1st - 3rd, March, 2012, Green Block Global, the team from Shantou University advised by Prof. Yue Li has won three awards---- Best Venture Exhibit Award, Recognition of Environmental Concerns Award and Best Team Synergy Award. The five members of Green Block Global are Jie Li, Wanling Chen, Shengzhi Li, Li Wu from MBA 2011 and Wenjie Li from College of Engineering.
The mai Bangkok Business Challenge, one of the world's most influential venture plan competitions, was created in 2002 to encourage postgraduate students in business administration programs across the world to become more entrepreneurial. In this year’s competition, 55 competing teams from 23 countries representing 6 continents registered and submitted their Summary Business Plans. Green Block Global was finally selected as one of the 16 Semi-Finalists, the only team from China to participate in the Semi-Final. The project proposed by Green Block Global is about a kind of new building material used to produce high quality bricks with the feature of increasing in-house thermal insulation performance and reducing energy consumption. The concept of "environment-friendly, economic, energy-saving” has received high praise from the judges, organizers as well as other participants.
The competition was held during 1st-3rd, March in this year. In the first morning, every team was required to decorate the exhibit booths. The Green Block Global Team designed and decorated their booth with an eye-catching green style to fit the product features of “eco-friendly, economic and energy-saving”. The designed exhibit booth won the award “Best Venture Exhibit”.
In the “Kiatnakin Bank 99-Second Pitch”, representatives from the 16 Semi-Finalists were required to promote their products in a 99-second short oral presentation. Our team representative Wanling Chen’s performance won warm applause and cheers from the audiences.
The semi-final round was held on 2nd March, the 16 Semi-Finalist teams were randomly selected to compete in one of the four groups, The Green Block Global Team was in Group D to compete with teams from Hitotsubashi University, Japan, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and Indian School of Business, India. Each team was required to make a 10-minute presentation, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer session with the judges. The Green Block Global Team had excellent performance in presentation. Finally, the team won the “Best Team Synergy” and “Recognition of Environmental Concerns” as well as “Best Venture Exhibit”.
After the competition, the five participants expressed their great harvest from the precious experience. They said the mai Bangkok Business Challenge provided a platform to enrich their experience, broaden their visions, improve their practice abilities, deepen the understanding of professional knowledge and improve their oral communication skills in English. Moreover, this competition strengthens the communication between Shantou University and other universities around the world.
